La historia es siempre una recreación de hechos verídicos. La memoria retiene las impresiones de aquellos sucesos de los que ha sido testigo el hombre, quien al devolverlos a la vida-   ya sea por la narración oral o el testimonio escrito- los cambia o modifica.
Para rehacer el pasado se hacen necesarias valoraciones múltiples, la sumo de testigos y, no pocas veces, se requiere aun más: tratar de desentrañar el porqué de las afirmaciones sustentadas y de las pasiones de los individuos que ofrecen la prueba final de procesos complejos y difíciles.
Pero la historia novelada es un arte que no todos los que escriben pueden ejercitar con acierto.
Al leer Flores para una leyenda, pude seguir las huellas de esos personajes que Miguel Sabater  llamó a participar en esta puesta en escena y, sobre todo, de los involucrados en el acto principal de la trama.
El trasfondo escogido es el retablo barroco de La Habana y en especifico el barrio de San Isidro, donde habitan, sin lugar a duda, el anima y el misterio del gentil y elegante Alberto Yarini que llevó dos vidas en una: la del galán enamorado y generoso, protector de la mujer infortunada; y la del joven que, en indeclinable culto al placer recibe de las féminas su lealtad y favores.
En medio del convulso panorama nacional, reina la figura del gallo, que aparece en la conciencia popular como parte de los mitos cubanos, plenos de simbología. Este es el valeroso contendiente que lucha hasta la muerte en la reyerta de la valla; el cantor de la revolución francesa que adornaba la empuñadura del sable de Toussaint  Louverture o el que, posado sobre los hierros y madero del arado, los liberales cubanos asumieron como divisa en los años iniciales e inciertos de la Republica.
Resulta paradójico que el apelativo pudiera ser adjudicado al que seria representante del Partido Conservador, lo cual nos hace meditar sobre lo imprecise de las catalogaciones políticas, ya que, en una y en otra vertientes en las que se escindió la opinión cubana, militaban notables personalidades que el autor del libro relaciona  cuando      por ejemplo describe la concentración de Guiines, que me hace evocar la desbandada del Guatao o del Perico.
Al caer abatido en el corazón de San Isidro, nuestro protagonista se torna victima de corruptos foráneos que pretendían pescar en las aguas revueltas. Para entonces, los sectores populares veían a Yarini como un político diferente, defensor de los pobres y negado a la práctica de la discriminación racial.
Por sus modales, apariencia aristocrática y elegante manera de vestir era el paradigma de la belleza viril, del valor temerario, que pervivirá hasta nuestros días. Así durante el sepelio, aunque muchos pudieron marchar en autos, otros prefirieron caminar para llevar su féretro en hombros.
Todavía estaba fresca en la memoria aquella escena del café en que el joven-ahora extinto-propinara un puñetazo al diplomático norteamericano en defensa del general del Ejercito Libertador Jesús Rabí, acto que revelaba en Alberto el rasgo de un carácter impulsivo, de su orgullo habanero, y de rechazo a la presencia estadounidense en la vida nacional.

De esta manera, entre lagrimas y ofrendas, llega el ataúd a la necrópolis donde, en extraña mezcolanza, se confunden las clases sociales y las representaciones políticas. Juntos aparecen a la luz del día amigos de Yarini,integrantes de la mas temida y respetable fraternidad de hombres del barrio y de los muelles; altos dignatarios del gobierno; el rector de la Universidad e ilustres miembros de su claustro; familiares encabezados por su padre, el respetado catedrático don Cirilo Yarini,y la atribulada madre; y entre la multitud, las hijas de María Magdalena que lloraron por toda la eternidad al señorito Alberto....
Escrita por un historiador e investigador sagaz, la novela nos deja una admiración contenida que alimenta la llama de un mito que el tiempo no podrá apagar, a pesar de inútiles y continuas explicaciones.
Queda pues, Flores para una leyenda como una muestra inefable de historia novelada que ,además -según confiesa el propio Sabater-,rinde culto a la sincera y verdadera amistad, que se mantiene de por vida ,sin importar diferencias de cuna ni raza.

Miguel Ángel Sabater Reyes (La Habana, 1960). Licenciado en Filología en la Universidad de la Habana, Cuba. Escritor, conferencista e investigador histórico.
Ha publicado más de 90 artículos, entrevistas, reportajes, crónicas, relatos y cuentos desde 1994 hasta 2014, en la revista "Palabra Nueva" de la Arquidiócesis de La Habana. Igualmente, ha publicado artículos de carácter histórico y archivístico en varios números del Boletín del Archivo Nacional de Cuba.
Entre sus libros publicados se encuentran: "Cuentos de orichas" (Editorial Extramuros, 2003), "Flores para una leyenda" (Primera Edición. Editorial UNION y Editorial Boloña, 2005), "Sabeatierra" (Ediciones Vivarium, 2011), "Flores para una leyenda, el rey de San Isidro" (2da edición revisada y corregida. If your startup is looking for an angel investor, you need to know what the angels are looking for. Understanding what motivates and excites an angel investor is crucial to getting funded. This book gives you insights from the angel's point of view.

Brian Cohen's biggest claim to fame is being the first investor in Pinterest. He's also the chairman of New York Angels, a consortium of 75 accredited investors that have collectively invested over $45 million and the co-founder, along with his son Trace, of Launch.it, a platform for startups to manage and distribute news.

The title may say "every investor", but these are definitely Cohen's opinions. Still, the principles and advice he shares in the book are common to most angel investors. Cohen's take on angel investing is that it's a "contact sport". Founders and angels need to stay engaged. Even the significance of a meal shared by angels and founders is discussed.

Instead of general ideas, this book is filled with clear-cut advice on how to make the best impression with potential investors. Examples included in the book are:

This book is the blueprint for start-up entrepreneurs who are seeking funding from Angel Investors. The author (Brian Cohen) is an actual investor from the New York Angeles and he has invested millions of dollars in new start ups. Cohen let's you inside of his mind and tells you how he and other investors "think" about the investing process. He will tell you exactly what you need to do to get an angel investor to pull out his checkbook and write a check for your start up. Don't assume you already know what it is. There is a process and an art to getting your start up funded and Cohen gives you the keys to the kingdom.

Cohen holds your hand and takes you step by step through the process of getting your start up funded. He gives you "key phrases" of what to actually say to investors in critical situations. He tells you the best way to approach an angel investor and how he likes to be approached. He lists the key things that angel investors look for in their decision process. He tells you the mistakes that most start-up entrepreneurs makes, so you can avoid making the same mistakes. And if that is not enough, he gives you resources and tells you exactly where to find angel investors and how to contact them.

"There are 250,000 Angel Investors in the U.S. funding 50,000 start-ups in a year. Angel investors commit about $20 billion to start-ups." I was stunned when I read this statistic in Cohen's book. It's data from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Bottom line... there are plenty of angel investors out there and they are looking for businesses to invest in. Mine as well be yours right?

If you are an entrepreneur and starting a business or thinking about starting a business my recommendation is that you stop everything you are doing right now! Buy this book, read it, study it, take notes and apply everything you see. If you do that, then I believe your $16 investment will pay for itself a thousand times over.

Lots of books have been published about venture capital, but not too many about angel investing. Now along comes "What Every Angel Investor Wants You To Know."
The book is full of practical advice for entrepreneurs raising finance for their startup. And it has plenty of case studies to make sure the lessons sink in.
Best in my opinion is that the book is written not by an academic but a person who lives and breathes this stuff every day. Brian S. Cohen is an active angel investor in the New York City startup community, and the chairman of New York Angels.
In his book, Cohen relates tons of examples from his investing experience on the startup trail, including a men's briefs designer he's backed (and endorsed). But more common are the stories of tech entrepreneurs he's backed and the reasons why. One key factor behind all his investments, including Pinterest, is the entrepreneur's deep knowledge of the market.
The book is loaded with personality -- humor, warmth, candor, upbeat -- and reads like it's written from the heart.
I highly recommend this book for any entrepreneur serious about getting ahead in the startup world.

About the Author

William J. Bottega is Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Rutgers University, where he has been since 1984. He received his Ph.D. in applied mechanics from Yale University, his M.S. in theoretical and applied mechanics from Cornell University, and his B.E. from the City College of New York. He also spent several years in R&D at General Dynamics where he worked on vibration and sound-structure interaction problems. In addition, Dr. Bottega is the author of numerous archival publications on various areas of theoretical and applied mechanics.
